  • Goedhuis, December 2011

Always a favourite of mine, this great Grand Cru has wonderfully aromatic spiced fruit aromas. On the palate it is rich and luscious, balancing a silky texture, with long intense flavours and a structured tannic finish. A wine with huge potential.

  • Burghound, January 2012, Score: 92-95

(from a 1.5 ha parcel that is almost entirely in terres rouges). A reserved and openly taciturn nose reluctantly reveals notes of a cool and exceptionally fresh mélange of plum and red berries that are freely cut with stone and warm earth nuances. The mouth feel is unusually refined and while there is excellent size, weight and concentration to the large-scaled flavors, the tannins are quite fine though dense and it's clear that this markedly persistent and youthfully austereeffort will require plenty of cellar time. Note that while it's a minor distinction, this is notquite as austere as the Latricières. In a word, terrific. 2025+

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2012, Score: 17

Solid and dense. More lift than many Bonnes Mares. Rather austere on the end but there is a convincing amount of fruit. Drink 2017-2027

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Bonnes Mares

Perched between Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny in the heart of the Cotes de Nuits this Grand Cru appellation can balance the best characteristics of both. Bonnes Mares wines combine fragrance and femininity with body and power. A seductive combination indeed.
