Robert Parker, April 2015, Score: 99
We could guess, on the basis of similar growing seasons, ripeness, and tannin extraction, that 2014 will match the outstanding, full-bodied 2001 vintage.

Producer Note, February 2015
Having selected seventeen lots, we concluded the first assemblage. That was then tasted blind-mixed in a flight that included five Monte Bello vintages, 2009 through 2013. The comparison was astonishing: this very young wine showed such elegance, and yet had a wonderfully defined structure for long-term aging. The blend now stands at 69% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 6% cabernet franc, and 2% petit verdot. Additional cabernet lots will be tasted in late April at second assemblage. If their addition makes for a Monte Bello of greater quality and complexity, we may just include them.
Region
Sonoma
Sonoma Valley AVA is an appellation in California, USA. It is the oldest wine region north of San Francisco and is located on the western side of the Mayacamas Mountains, which separate it from the Napa Valley. The valley nearly touches the Russian river valley to the north-west and reaches the Sonoma portion of Carneros in the south. With steep mountains on either side there are great variations in climate and geology, which gives way to many different grape varieties and styles. The most notable varieties are Chardonnay and Zinfandel but also Cabernet and Merlot from hillside sites.
