  • Goedhuis, December 2016

Beaux Bruns is always a noticeably warmer site than some of Ghislaine’s higher vineyards such as Les Cras. Her 2015 is characteristically opulent and generous, with an abundance of damson fruits. There is a silky richness to this wine, which finishes with an exquisite hint of sweetness.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 91-93

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns has a slightly more austere, reserved bouquet compared to the Les Chatelots, but still compelling with precise, cold stone-influenced red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, sharing the same linearity and precision as the Chatelots, but with more depth and grip towards the finish. It has a disarming sense of purity, just the right tinge of salinity to beckon another sip. This is excellent.

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 90-92

This is almost a combination of the Combottes and Chatelots with its wonderfully layered nose of kirsch, spice, tea, violet and lavender scents. There is once again fine richness to the sappy and palate coating medium weight flavors that possess both a taut muscularity and power that carries over to the impressively persistent finale where about the only nit is a hint of warmth. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
