  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 91-93

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Gruenchers has a very able bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and wilted rose petal scents that blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, a crisp line of acidity, plenty of energy and a vibrant, ripe and rounded finish that seems to caress the senses. Bon vin, as they say. Drink 2019 - 2030

  • Burghound, January2017, Score: 90-92

A beautifully broad-ranging nose reflects notes of cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, spice and a pretty floral top note. There is a subtle stony element suffusing the attractively well-detailed medium weight flavors that also possess a lacy mouth feel while delivering fine if not truly exceptional complexity on the balanced finale. This should be enjoyable young but reward mid-term keeping. Drink 2025+

Producer

Domaine Fourrier

Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family domaine in 1994 and has attacked every vintage with dynamic determination and ambition, building the reputation of the estate with astute viticulture and fanatical winemaking. He had learned from the best, most notably the late Henri Jayer of Vosne Romanée and Domaine Drouhin in the Willamette Valley in Oregon with whom he did his formative training. He is a keen participant in the growing trend towards minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. The domaine has a remarkable array of very old vines, many having been planted between the wars. The Fourrier wines are pure and balanced.

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
