  • Neal Martin, October 2019, Score: 90

The 2016 Corton Grand Cru offers cranberry and crushed strawberry scents on the nose, touches of petrichor and flint in the background, focused and almost steely in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and plenty of tightly wound red fruit. It just tapers towards the finish when you wish it would fan out, and it does fade after 10 minutes in the glass. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

  • Vinous, January 2018, Score: 92-95

(these high-altitude vines produced a normal crop in 2016): Moderately saturated dark red. Sexy if slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, tarte au prune and game, with some new oak showing. Very rich, dense and pliant, conveying a distinctly relaxed quality for the vintage. This plump, large-scaled grand cru finishes with superb restrained sweetness, noteworthy finesse of tannins, and serious building length, with its lightly saline black raspberry fruit complemented by an almost chocolatey ripeness. An extremely promising vintage for this wine.

  • Decanter, June 2022, Score: 96

This wine is still youthful but is starting to open already, with aromas of currants and plums and a splash of kirsch along with deeper notes of dark chocolate and ginger. The charm and accessible suppleness on the palate in no way compromise the length or complexity of the finish. Produced from Bouchard's impressive 3.55 ha holdings at the top of the Aloxe slope, this is fermented with about 30% whole clusters before aging just over a year in cask (half new).

  • Jasper Morris MW, September 2019, Score: 90

Attractive mid to dark red. There is a wave of attractive berry fruit on the nose, succulent and welcoming, fills the mouth before coming on to the final tannins which add backbone without doing damage. Fully ripe but nicely in balance.

Region

Corton

The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
