Neal Martin, September 2021, Score: 93
The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru initially seems a bit acetic on the nose, although it does improve with 15 minutes in the glass, revealing scents of Bing cherry and raspberry, a little confit in style. The palate is sharp and (again) a little acetic, delivering modest depth and a velvety finish. This does cohere and gain more fruit intensity with aeration and ends up being quite sensual. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. Drink 2025 - 2050
Region
Chapelle Chambertin
One of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. Chapelle-Chambertin's vineyards are on gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north. The thin rocky soil forces the vines to work hard. The exceptional wines produced in Chapelle-Chambertin are complex, powerful and incredibly long-lasting.
