  • Antonio Galloni, November 2021, Score: 93

    The 2018 Barolo Le Vigne is a mid-weight, tightly wound wine, with a classic sense of austerity that will need at least a few years in bottle to start softening. Red cherry fruit, white flowers, mint and chalk lend brightness and tension throughout. In 2018, the blend of vineyards is Baudana, Villero, Vignane and Merli.

  • Robert Parker, June 2022, Score: 96+

    One of my personal favorites, the 2018 Barolo Le Vigne is savory in character and packed with dark fruit. Ripe cherry and redcurrant cedes to spice, licorice and fragrant rose. The oak is integrated, but there are added accents of spice and dark tar. Le Vigne is a blend of fruit from Baudana in Serralunga d'Alba, Villero in Castiglione Falletto, Vignane in Barolo and Merli in Novello.

  • James Suckling, October 2022, Score: 95

    The delicate mix of creamy red berries and savory, truffley notes keeps your nose glued to the glass. And that subtlety is carried over into the medium-to full-bodied palate, where there’s a youthful balance of silky fruit and lightly firm tannins that drives gently through the long finish. Subtle is the word, but excellent is the verdict. So tempting to drink now, but give it a couple of years. Try from 2024.

  • Jancis Robinson, November 2021, Score: 17++

    Lustrous medium ruby. Finely perfumed and youthful on the nose with just a touch of complex oak. Lively raspberry and sour-cherry fruit layered with fine tannins. Very fine and fragrant and still a little subdued. Lots of refreshing acidity (6.3 g/l).

  • Kerin O’Keefe, Score: 94

    Camphor, violet, red berry and oak-driven spice are front and center on this fragrant red. Elegantly structured and vibrant, the focused palate delivers juicy red cherry, crushed strawberry, star anise and a hint of mocha alongside taut, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced.

One of the most respected and admired names in Piedmont, Luciano Sandrone has been making exceptional wines for over 40 years. Beginning with a modest plot in Cannubi Boschis in 1978, his now 20-hectare estate produces some of the world’s best Barolos. Throughout its history, this hallowed estate has always remained true to the DNA of their vineyards; they practice minimal intervention and, unlike many other winemakers in the region, use smaller old French oak barrels to deliver precision and preserve the purity and aromatics of the fruit. Many consider Luciano to be a visionary and his children, Luca and Barbara, are now working alongside him to maintain their father’s philosophy. A favourite amongst top wine critics, Sandrone’s wines are not to be missed.Read less

Region

Piedmont

Piedmont is located in the north western corner of Italy. Though several grape varieties are prominent such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Moscato, it is Nebbiolo that reigns supreme. It produces wines that are not particularly deep in colour, yet they are perfumed, powerful and can age for many years. Due to the ethereal nature of the Nebbiolo grape and the numerous single vineyard wines, many compare top examples to grand cru Burgundies of the Côte de Nuits.Mountainous, its vineyards are cut into the hillsides forming terraces reminiscent of the Mosel Valley in Germany and the northern Rhone Valley in France. The two most notable appellations are Barolo and Barbaresco.
