  • Goedhuis, December 2019

This is a stunning example of this famous grand cru. Broad and full in style, with flavours of mango and crème anglaise. Boldly intense, structured and very long. Hugely impressive.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 94

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a superb bouquet with crushed stone, flint, yellow flowers and light lemon curd aromas. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry, sporting the weight and waxy-texture one seeks in a Corton-Charlemagne. Great tension from start to finish, this constitutes a superb Grand Cru from Javillier. 2022 - 2038

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 93

A pretty if noticeably reserved nose features a layered assortment of mineral reduction, acacia blossom, lemon rind and freshly sliced Granny Smith apples. The succulent and tautly muscular larger-scaled flavors exhibit plenty of minerality while culminating in a powerful and beautifully persistent finale. This is really quite stylish and could aptly be described as a Corton-Charlemagne of refinement. Drink 2028+ Sweet spot

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 92-95

Unracked, still on lees in barrel. Glowing lemon and lime colour. A touch of sandalwood and light curry coming off the barrel. This is backward, quite intense with a softly charming fruit on the one hand and a stony intensity lurking below. Tightly knit, promising.

Like all great winemakers he has his own views as to how wines should be made and the benefits of ageing both in cask and bottle and everything is thought out meticulously with this in mind. He makes wonderfully textbook wines, which for us are the most perfect reflection of the wines of Meursault. His wines have the natural exuberance that one expects from this the most exotic of the three famous white Côte de Beaune villages, whilst having a complexity of texture that only the very finest vineyards and producers ever seem to produce.Read less

Corton Charlemagne

As legend goes, Charlemagne, king of the Franks, ordered Chardonnay planted in the vineyard of Corton during his reign in the 8th century so as he would not stain his light-coloured beard during moments of great thirst. This may be mere romantic fallacy, but what cannot be denied is the exceptional quality of this Grand Cru appellation in Aloxe Corton in the Cote de Beaune.
