  • Goedhuis, January 2011

Always one of the tiniest single Grand Crus we sell (two barrels if one is lucky), the 2009 delivers the perfect balance between its masculine presence and structure and its wonderfully feminine core of sweet wild berry fruit. Its silky curves carry this delineated beauty to a long and admirable finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 93-95

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. A very complex bouquet with dark cherry fruit, redcurrant, oyster shell and a touch of apple-blossom lending it great lift. Superb definition once again. The palate has a dense, quite profound entry with very fine acidity. The oak is seamlessly integrated into the wine, a slight gourmand edge, building beautifully in the mouth with a precise, Morello and orange zest finish that lingers beautifully. Lovely.

  • Burghound, January 2011, Score: 93-96

This is also aromatically discreet though aggressive swirling liberates an ultra pure, refined and airy nose of highly spiced red and blue berries and plum that is also quite cool and minerally and this restraintcontinues onto the precise and moderately austere broad-shouldered flavors that are supported by refined tannins andgenuinely incredible length. This is an intensely mineral-suffused yet velvety wine that should mature into a great example ofthe appellation as the potential is certainly here. In a word, brilliant.

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region

Le Musigny

Le Musigny is a red Grand Cru vineyard based in Burgundy’s Chambolle Musigny village in the Côte de Nuits. Le Musigny is situated between the scrubland at the top of the slope and the upper section of Clos de Vougeot on well-draining limestone soil. The wines of Le Musigny are some of the best in Burgundy on a par with those of Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
