  • Goedhuis, December 2015

Dark brooding black spiced fruits, this has a lovely succulence and fullness. With deep dark chocolate notes, it is gracious and yet powerful. The flavours linger beautifully on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 93-95

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts was showing a harmonious, well defined bouquet with hints of pressed flowers filtering through the red and black fruit. The palate is candied on the entry with sorbet-like freshness, subtle touches of marmalade and quince infusing the energetic citrus-fresh fruit, with a long finish that fans out beautifully. This is an outstanding Vosne-Romanée Malconsorts from winemaker Charles Van Canneyt. Drink 2017-2035

  • Burghound, January 2016, Score: 90-93

A distinctly cool and restrained nose offers up more elegant if less spicy aromas of red and dark currant, violet, plum and a hint of anise. The muscular mineral-driven big-bodied flavors possess excellent volume and punch while exhibiting excellent length on the moderately austere finale. This robust effort will require at least 7 to 8 years before it sheds enough tannin to be approachable. Drink 2026+

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
