A pure nose redolent of silky creme de cassis. Very understated at the moment. That palate bursts with flavour. Generous but controlled. Ripe fruit in the mouth with tannins that are so well integrated, there’s a bitterness at the end that balances the sweetness of the fruit.

The 2022 Blason de L'Évangile has a straightforward bouquet with dark berry fruit, tar and a subtle marine influence that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded and supple tannins. It's dense for a Blason, with blackberry and raspberry mixed with black tea toward the finish. Maybe just missing a little tension, but I appreciate the peppery element on the aftertaste

The 2022 Blason de L'Évangile is a dense, powerful wine that very much shows the richness and density of the year. There’s tons of energy, but all of it feels directed inwards in what is a decidedly potent Blason. Strong spicy accents from the Cabernet Franc lift the expansive finish. There is so much to like here. The 2022 is the most serious Blason I can remember tasting in a long time.

Fresh and ripe blue fruit on the nose, really aromatic and inviting with sweet cherry accents. Bright, juicy and clean with mouthwatering acidity and a stony bite to the fruit with clear minerality lacing the finely supportive tannins. A lovely cool and creamy texture, deep and rich, but gentle and calm too, nothing too much or too intense yet still structured and layered. Power comes with the gentle spiced undercurrent, this has energy and polish with lift at the end. Well textured and balanced, still quite serious though in terms of dark fruits with some liquorice and slate on the finish. A long 25 day maceration but not more of an intensive extraction. Ageing 8% amphora, 10% wooden tanks, 25% concrete and one year old barrels. 3.84pH. Earliest ever harvest starting on 29 August until 14 September.

The 2022 Blason De L'Evangile is based on 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc brought up in 25% tank, 15% in amphora, and 10% in new foudre, with the rest in used barrels. Ruby red in colour, deep nutmeg and clove spice, plush velvety blackberry fruits, with cracked pepper, fig and damson notes. The vintage character is clear in the exuberance, with some austerity to the tannins on the finish. 50% of the production in Blason (a slight rise from usual). 8% amphora for aging, plus 10% in lage wooden casks. 3.8ph, irrigation on young vines. 2nd year of organic certification. Harvest August 29, earliest ever, for the west-facing side of the vines only.
Region
Pomerol
The small sub-region of Pomerol is situated north-east of the industrious city of Libourne. Pomerol's soils are predominately iron-rich clay with a smattering of gravel that produce wines with extraordinary power and depth. As a result of this clay-dominance, it has the highest percentage of Merlot planted in all of Bordeaux. Certain châteaux are produced exclusively from this grape, but most incorporate smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as well. Despite its hefty (if not exclusive) proportion of Merlot, many people think of wines from this region as separate entities. As one wine aficionado stated recently, "It's not Merlot. It's Pomerol." Despite the region's small size, Pomerol contains some of the world's most sought after (and expensive) wines including Pétrus, Le Pin, Lafleur, l'Evangile and Vieux Château Certan. Unlike other Bordelais subregions, there is no system of classification. The châteaux are traded on reputation alone.
