  • Goedhuis, January 2011

Sweet, spiced wild berry fruit aroma, this relatively high 1er Cru above La Romanée has certainly benefited from its position in 2009. This is wonderfully rich, with a glorious breadth of fruit and tremendousvolume whilst always remaining very fresh on the palate and the flavours seem to linger forever.

  • Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 91-93

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. The Reignots has a very succinct bouquet with touches of redcurrant and raspberry leaf, hints of limestone in the background, well defined and a little bashful. However, there is a great deal of energy on the entry, vibrant dark berried fruit, more masculine than the nose suggests with linear tannins and great clarity towards the finish. Red cherries, raspberry and a touch of citrus lemon peel interwoven into the lingering aftertaste. Divine.

  • Burghound, January 2011, Score: 89-91

An exuberantly spicy nose features very fresh floral, raspberry and black cherry aromas that give way to delicate, minerally and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that are not especially concentrated but the important element of balance is present. A wine of elegance and finesse.Drink: 2016+.

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2011, Score: 16.5+

The first Sylvain Cathiard wine on the upward scale that starts to show seriousness. Real sinew and structure here even though the vines are only 11 years old. Easy, fresh with flavours of glacé cherries. Denser than the village Vosne but with a light, flirtatious finish.

He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
