Burgundy 2024 EP | Matthew Jukes Recommendations

Matthew Jukes, one of our favourite critics, has just published his top Burgundy En Primeur picks for the 2024 vintage, many of which he tasted at our London tasting earlier this week. Each year, Matthew highlights a small selection of QP wines, those offering the best balance of quality and price. Of his ten recommendations from our list, the below are still available, but quantities are limited, so we recommend buying as soon as possible to secure a case or two.

The domaine’s Bourgogne Blanc comes from four different locations just outside the appellation of Chassagne Montrachet, some of which historically produced red wine, but in recent years have been replaced with Chardonnay vines to satisfy the growing demand for Côte de Beaune white wine. Aromas of banana and greengage. Approachable, with lively fresh apple and pear characters. A fine modern example of early drinking white Burgundy.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2026, Score: 17/20

I tasted the entire range of 2024s at the Domaine in October last year, and they are all pristine. In terms of value, prices rise steeply from the village wines into the Premier Crus, so my unmissable recommendation is this bargain-priced generic release. My note read, ‘Very plush and creamy – a genuine mini-Chassagne, and likely to be a bargain. Keep your eyes peeled.’ I got that right!

Sitting behind the hill of Corton, these vines are positioned within a south-facing, sheltered combe which offers protection and warmth from northerly winds, ideal for managing temperature fluctuations. The vineyard’s warmer location produces wines with beautiful ripe-fruit character, zippy lime and peach with hints of mango and melon are followed by an open silky mouthfeel, with a moreish nutty texture. The perfect vintage for this wine.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2026, Score: 17.5/20

This is the third Rollin wine in this report, and it is another terrific creation. It sits in the middle between the village wine and the Premier Cru in all respects, delivering immediate enjoyment with more than a twist of elegance and distinction.

This is a monopole vineyard owned by the Tollot family in the north of the appellation delivering pure Pinot fruit at its very best. Such a lovely approachable style, full of red berry fruits, soft and sensual, with gentle tannins. Easy on the finish, perfect early drinking Pinot.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2026, Score: 17.5/20

Nathalie Tollot reported that her yields were only 25% down, so I hope you can find this wine and the others in this article. This wonderful monopole is bright as a button, buoyant and aromatically splendid in 2024, and it is seamless enough to drink on release.

2024 Gevrey Chambertin Dix Climats Drouhin Laroze

Four hectares of village Gevrey Chambertin in ten different locations is a sizeable parcel and, as a result, this cuvée is a superb example of this famous Côte de Nuits appellation. Sweet red fruits are complemented by dark spice and an edge of bitter black cherry. They have used 40% oak in this cuvee which adds a lovely texture and warmth which hugs the mouth. The grapes were all vinified together which brings harmony and balance to the richness and structure. A classic for any Gevrey lover.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2026, Score: 18/20

This is one of a vanishingly small collection of Gevreys that I liked in 2024. It avoids the trap of being hard, oaky, dried out and too lean, by confounding the senses with flesh, spice and controlled tannins. Chapeau.

Two hectares of village Puligny from a selection of 7 vineyard locations makes for a super representation of the commune’s wine. The nose is one of lively citrus, with aromas of blood orange and fresh pink grapefruit. At its core, there is a straight and direct line of minerality which is softened by sweet ripe peach fruitiness. The complexity of this wine far outweighs its village status.

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2026, Score: 18.5/20

I have already reported on JMB’s stunning 2024s in Wednesday Wines Edition 290 (link here), but back then, I didn’t know the prices. Now I can calculate that this wine will cost around £63, it is a standout in the more expensive reaches, without tipping over into the likes of 2024 1er Cru Les Referts (£425 IB per 6), which is another jaw-dropping wine. There is not much stock to go around, so get in NOW.
