  • Goedhuis, December 2015

It is unfair on the RSV to say this is better, but it possibly just has the edge. Although not particularly dark in colour it has an extraordinary degree of density and amazing layers of fruit and spice. Textured and long, with oodles of class.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 96-98

The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru could be a contender for one of the wines of the vintage. It has a more nuanced and perhaps even better delineated bouquet than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant, aromatics that just nail your feet to the floor. There is wonderful mineralité here. The palate is stunning: filigree tannin and an ineffable sense of symmetry. This is just so energetic and animated, a Richebourg to be reckoned with, class from top to bottom. Do whatever you can to steal a sip. Drink 2020-2045

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 93

Discreet but not invisible wood frames the less expressive but similarly spicy nose of fresh and ripe plum, cassis and violet scents that also display a hint of herbal tea. There is outstanding volume and intensity to the lightly mineral-inflected big-bodied flavors that possess very fine depth and length on the well-balanced finale. This is very firmly structured and is going to require at least a decade of cellaring before it will be approachable. Drink 2029+

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less
