  • Goedhuis, November 2018

Sitting below Chambertin Clos de Bèze, this is a well placed grand cru that sometimes doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Sweet and juicy, with flavours of blackberry and vanilla. This is a very appealing wine. Polished, long and beguiling.

  • Neal Martin, Janaury 2019, Score: 90-92

The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru matures with 25% whole bunches and in 80% new wood. It has quite an intense bouquet with small black cherry, blackcurrant and subtle pressed iris flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, very cohesive in the mouth. The wood integrates nicely on the finish even if I would have just dialed it down. Maybe a little more personality on the finish is needed to get up there with the best from this Grand Cru. 2023 - 2038

  • Burghound, January 2019, Score: 90-93

A background application of wood serves as a reasonably neutral backdrop for the floral and attractively spicy aromas of plum and dark pinot fruit that is cut with a touch of earth character. There is more volume if less power to the more generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that also helps to buffer the moderately firm tannic spine. This has the legs to age well over the medium to even longer-term but should drink reasonably well young if desired. Drink 2032+

  • Decanter, December 2018, Score: 96

One of the jewels in the Drouhins' array of grands crus, this old-vine parcel covers 0.5ha. Intensely coloured, with 80% new wood for support, this is aromatic and textured, unfurling aromas and flavours of liquorice, blueberry and rose petal in the glass. It's sappy and focussed, with filigree tannins. Drinking Window 2025 - 2032

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region

Chapelle Chambertin

One of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. Chapelle-Chambertin's vineyards are on gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north. The thin rocky soil forces the vines to work hard. The exceptional wines produced in Chapelle-Chambertin are complex, powerful and incredibly long-lasting.
