  • Goedhuis, March 2022

Like a tightly coiled spring, the aromatics of this 2018 Castiglione are quivering under the surface, subtle wild forest fruits, red berries and violets are waiting to snap out and unwind after some time in the cellar. The palate is compact too, showing beautifully ripe but powerful tannins that give exquisite texture but also tension. We are excited to watch this wine unfurl and knit together with time. Drink 2025-2035.

  • Antonio Galloni, November 2021, Score: 92

The 2018 Barolo Castiglione is bright, fresh and delineated. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petal all run through this gorgeous, sculpted Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy here are captivating. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It's a gorgeous wine in the making. Drinking window: 2024 - 2036.

  • James Suckling, March 2022, Score: 92

Plenty of wild-berry character to the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with good fruit focus and firm tannin that will need a year or two to soften. Bright and youthful. Give it time. Best from 2024.

Region

Barolo

With Brunello in Tuscany, Barolo is undoubtedly Italy's finest wine producing region. Located in Piedmont in the north west of Iataly Barolo is comprised of 5 major communes - Barolo, Monteforte d'Alba, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba - though the latter three tend to represent the main styles of the region. The wines are compelling and polished - an exemplary expression of the Nebbiolo grape. DOCG law requires a minimum ageing of 2 years in cask or barrel yet can be longer depending on the producer. Barolos are generally released four or more years after the vintage.
