The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a restrained bouquet with cranberry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruit. Just a touch of reduction hems everything in at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Lovely balance and purity, fine backbone, quite chalky in texture towards the finish - this is a great Gevrey Premier Cru. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. 92/100 DRINK 2024-2044

Neal Martin, November 2019, Score: 93-95
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru comes from 1.47 hectares that cover the four soil types within the vineyard; Magnien informed me that he is the only grower who has all four. The vines are Pinot Magnien and some are up to 100 years old. A gorgeous bouquet of pure black cherries, blueberry and light violet aromas bursts from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and lightly spiced, leading into a harmonious, persistent, mineral-driven finish. This should evolve into a gorgeous Les Cazetiers. 93-95 /100 DRINK 2022-2038

Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
