  • Goedhuis, December 2019

The enviable aspect and exposure of these south east facing vines allow for excellent ripening of the fruit. This has a silky, velvety texture. It is very full, balanced by a strikingly taut finish. Complex and long.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 91-93

The 2018 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru includes some declassified Haut Densité fruit (20% of the total production) from vines too young to enter that blend. This has a lovely bouquet of white flower aromas and citrus fruit mixed with hints of quince and orange blossom. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, very taut and precise. Brisk Nashi pear and black currant leaf surface toward the finish. Excellent. 2022 - 2038

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 89-92

This too is restrained, airy and distinctly cool with its aromas of citrus, acacia and mineral reduction. The middle weight flavors are not quite as dense but they're equally refined and intense with a pungent salinity that adds to the bracing, chalky, lemony and bone-dry finale. Drink 2025+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 92-96

It is hard to imagine that anybody can be more meticulous than Olivier Lamy when you hear that he made five different passes through this vineyard to complete the picking – almost as if he wanted each berry at its optimum ripeness. The resulting wine offers a clear pale colour with a green tint. Steely backward nose, really intense on the palate, white fruit with a lemon twist, tightly coiled, certainly no suggestion of dilution here. The fruit stretches out brilliantly at the back of the palate. Maybe the best I know.

Region

Saint Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
