Neal Martin, September 2024, Score: 93
The 2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a little more lift on the nose, dark berry fruit, cola and rose petals. A touch of forest floor percolates through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins, red fruit laced with orange rind and a touch of lemon peel. It's almost flinty towards the finish, quite persistent but strict and linear. It's not a flattering Grand Cru, but it has no intentions of seducing. Aloof. And that can be a virtue! Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Region
Latricières Chambertin
Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
