    A deep dark berry colour, notes of cranberry and red cherry leap out from the glass. An invigorating vibrance and freshness give the wine great life and energy. Very good structure, with its weight of fruit coating the palate, the tightness on the finish just means the wine returns into its shell at this early stage, but has so much potential for the long-term.

    The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru has a pastille-like bouquet with red cherries, blood orange and potpourri scents - not immediate and complex. The medium-bodied palate has fine grip, chalky tannins, and very good tension with a persistent, mineral-rich finish just oozing class. What an outstanding Gevrey-Chambertin this will become. Drink 2026-2045.

    A perfumed and exceptionally cool, pretty and airy nose reflects notes of mostly wild red cherry, dark currant and a whiff of spice character. There is excellent delineation to the more mineral-driven if less fleshy middleweight flavors that deliver just a bit more overall depth and persistence on the youthfully austere and chiseled finale. This is textbook Goulots and decidedly understated in style. Lovely. Drink 2030+.

    Mid crimson to ruby. Quite a fresh raspberry nose, quite high toned. Fresh red fruit on the palate, good acidity, medium plus length, fresh red cherries, grows to the back of the palate so very persistent at the end. Drink from 2029-2037.

Domaine Fourrier

Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family domaine in 1994 and has attacked every vintage with dynamic determination and ambition, building the reputation of the estate with astute viticulture and fanatical winemaking. He had learned from the best, most notably the late Henri Jayer of Vosne Romanée and Domaine Drouhin in the Willamette Valley in Oregon with whom he did his formative training. He is a keen participant in the growing trend towards minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. The domaine has a remarkable array of very old vines, many having been planted between the wars. The Fourrier wines are pure and balanced.

Region

Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
