  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, January 2025

A 2.7 ha monopole Premier Cru vineyard, with the most perfect soil combination of limestone and clay for the growing of Chardonnay, facing south-easterly with vines averaging 50 years. What more can you ask for! Aromas of freshly kneaded dough, a more subtle and refined style than the Brulés. Nuances of brioche, mandarin and crème caramel, this is very fine, with a controlled intensity and has a delightfully refreshing saline finish. Full of class.

  • Burghound, October 2024, Score: 90-93

This is still displaying secondary fermentation aromas, effectively blocking an evaluation of the nose. The notably finer, if less concentrated and powerful, medium-bodied flavors exude an appealing minerality that adds a sense of lift to the borderline tannic and very firm finale that is also more austere. This is promising though clearly a wine that's going to need at least some patience.

The majority of the estate's 30 hectares of vineyards are located in the districts of FUISSÉ and POUILLY, halfway up the hillsides with a south-south-easterly aspect. The soil with its variable proportions of clay and chalk give the wines both structure and elegance. The vines are cared for using traditional methods and are harvested separately and manually according to "climat" (plot). Vinification is carefully adapted, according to the parcel from which it is produced. Following fermentation, the wines are left on lees for a period of nine-months, then drawn off and blended, taking account of the complementary characteristics of each parcel, then slightly filtered.Read less

Region

Pouilly-Fuissé

At the southern tip of the Mâconnais lies Pouilly Fuisse - one of a group of five villages amid rolling limestone hills producing the most serious white wines in the area. At their best this is serious Chardonnay indeed, golden, rich and ripe. There is no hierarchy of wines in Pouilly Fuisse, but the appellation name may be followed by the name of a specific vineyard.
