  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

The estate owns an enviable 8 hectares under vine, the majority of which are in the northern part of the appellation around Davayé. Antoine’s policy of vinifying in stainless steel allows purity and freshness to be the focus of this fine cuvée. From three plots, which are vinified separately before being blended together, this is a delightfully aromatic cuvée, where nectarine and clementine combine with notes of salted almonds. The parcel at the bottom of the slope is rich in clay, which gives the wine textural weight, while the limestone and chalky soils of the other two bring mineral freshness to the finish.

  • Neal Martin, June 2024, Score: 90

The 2023 Saint-Véran comes from three sources (Les Cras, Le Clos and the top of Chasselas) vinified separately, raised in stainless-Stell and bottled after nine months. It has a fresh Muscat-tinged bouquet with a skip in its step, richer in style but still well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with fine weight and density. It's pretty minty in style towards a finish that has an admirable race. No doubt this will be a very good value and comes recommended.

  • Burghound, October 2024, Score: 88

A mild touch of reduction is enough to mask everything except a furtive floral nuance so give this some air if you're going to open one right away. There is a lovely freshness and verve suffusing the delicious middle weight flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the moderately dry, youthfully austere and lightly compact finale. A few years of keeping should be beneficial.

The majority of the estate's 30 hectares of vineyards are located in the districts of FUISSÉ and POUILLY, halfway up the hillsides with a south-south-easterly aspect. The soil with its variable proportions of clay and chalk give the wines both structure and elegance. The vines are cared for using traditional methods and are harvested separately and manually according to "climat" (plot). Vinification is carefully adapted, according to the parcel from which it is produced. Following fermentation, the wines are left on lees for a period of nine-months, then drawn off and blended, taking account of the complementary characteristics of each parcel, then slightly filtered.Read less

Region

Saint Véran

The vineyards of St Veran lie both to the north and south of the Pouilly Fuisse appellation at the southern tip of the Mâconnais. Only white wines made from the Chardonnay grape qualify. Saint-Véran's wines have more body and structure than a Mâcon Villages wine. They rarely have the power and structure to rival Pouilly Fuisse, but can represent excellent value.
