    A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, Le Volte is the fantastic value Italian buy from the team behind Ornellaia. The 2022 shows soft, fruity flavours of ripe red cherry, plum, blackberry and blackcurrant infused with pepper and fresh herbs such as sage and thyme. The palate is nicely rounded, with supple, melting tannins providing support to the bright, spiced, fruit. It delivers the trademark Ornellaia style in a playful, earlier drinking format and can be enjoyed from the get-go, although we would happily cellar for three to five years.

    The 2022 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a tasty Sangiovese-based blend. Crushed flowers, plum, cinnamon, leather and spice are front and center. Plump and inviting, with lovely forward fruit, Le Volte is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Drink 2024-2029

    Very aromatic, with raspberry, orange peel and floral aromas. Nice transparency. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a crisp, crunchy finish. Drinkable now, but better from 2026.

    The aromatics are sweet and fragrant, with crushed damson plum, grilled sandalwood, leather, gourmet edged, easy to sink into, and extremely well made. Higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than in previous vintages of Volte, aged in barrels that were first used for Ornellaia. Director Axel Heinz left half way through this vintage, winemaker Olga Fusari skilfully brings it home.

With 9 months on lees and 10% new oak, there is a textural richness on the palate, yet a tributary of salinity cuts through to keep the wine feeling light and refreshing. Proof that Burgundian elegance doesn’t require Burgundian prices.

    There is a similarity with the Paladin Hill, but the difference is barrel selection. This comes from Northern Wilyabrup, plus some estate grown chardonnay and some Karridale chardonnay. All barrel fermentation and 10 % new oak. A combination of barriques and puncheons. It’s loaded with light lemony grapefruit and melony fruit characters. The minerally acidity provides an excellent balance. Small amount of malolactic fermentation. Supremely balanced.

    The dominant force in this old vine cuvée of Bourgogne Blanc comes from the Les Palland vineyard close to Puligny, planted between 1945 and 1950. A combination of pineapple and fresh grapefruit leads into more tropical notes with some firm, dry extract structure on the palate, whilst finishing with some lovely, moreish creamy vanilla notes.

The lovely silky tannins flow over the palate, complimenting the lush, juicy fruit, held together by a core of gentle salinity. Just starting to drink very well now, and will age nicely for the next 3-5 years too.

    Winemaker Cory Waller is in epic stride at this property right now, and this bottling is solid case in point. It's light in the glass, with aromas of fresh and dried cherry, mild game and dusty chaparral on the elegant nose. The palate perfectly captures ripe fruit yet retains lovely and rustic layers of tar and baking spice. The compelling texture pushes it into the next league.
