  • Burghound, January 2012, Score: 91-93

Here too the wood is far from subtle but even so it seems somewhat better integrated than with the prior two wines and this permits the naturally spicy red currant, plum and violet suffused aromas to express themselves more clearly. There is also a mild touch of toast on the detailed and solidly concentrated and well-detailed flavors that possess a controlled sense of power on the focused, linear and impressively persistent finish. This moderately structured effort should also reward 12 to 15 years of cellar time.Drink: 2022+

Region

Grands Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Much more compact and homogenous than the neighbouring Echezeaux, the Grands Echézeaux vineyards are owned by around twenty producers - very modest in Burgundian terms. The most celebrated producers include Domaines de la Romanee Conti, d'Eugenie and Mongeard-Mugneret. These fine wines are richly complex yet balanced and have enormous ageing potential.
