En Primeur | Domaine Jean-Marc & Thomas Bouley

Founded in 1919 by François Bouley, this 100-year-old family domaine is now run by his extremely capable great grandson Thomas. He follows organic practices and, with the recent completion of a modern cuverie with individual temperature-controlled vats built to reflect vineyard parcel size and production, handles each wine individually down to the finest detail. An extremely impressive range of characterful wines.

    This village cuvée offers a perfect representation of Volnay from vines aged between 45 – 83 years, situated just below Premier Cru Les Carelles. A warmer site, this is full of sumptuous ripe summer pudding fruits. The combination of generosity and a red iron soil tension provides a delicious balance between sweetness of fruit and grippy, layered texture. Such a great expression of bedrock terroir and freshness.

    The red ferrous soil of this vineyard always produces a richly flavoured wine with great depth, and is amongst Thomas’s favourite parcels within his fine portfolio. A delicate smoky scent sits quietly underneath the perfumed bilberry and tayberry aromatics. On the palate there is a sensation of silky ripeness; the tannins are powdery and subtle in nature and the final sensation of saline freshness at the end gives further quality to this excellent cuvée.

    The 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle is very suave and integrated for a wine that can sometimes be one of the blockier cuvées in the range. Offering up notes of dark berries, cherries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and layered palate, it's rich and textural, with ripe tannins and a sweet core of fruit.   • IN BOND prices exclude UK Duty and VAT. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries. Duty and VAT must be paid before delivery can take place.

  • RETAIL prices include UK Duty and VAT. Wines for UK delivery can only be purchased this way.

  • Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bond and cannot subsequently be returned to Bond.  VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. These wines must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • En Primeur wines can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.
