The Monthly Six | July Recommendations

Provence is turning purple once again as the annual lavender fields burst into bloom throughout July. While we may not all be wandering through the South of France, we can certainly enjoy the season a little closer to home, with London's beautiful gardens awash with world-class roses in equally glorious sunshine.

This Month's Six begins with two delightful Provençal rosés, a welcome way to keep cool. Crisp, vibrant whites from Spain and Italy follow, bringing freshness and elegance to the selection. To finish, we've included two French reds that are wonderfully versatile and equally enjoyable.

Luminous and blushingly pale in the glass. Beautifully elegant and inviting nose, with soft red fruits and floral notes of jasmine. Lovely and vibrant on the palate, with cranberry, strawberry, a touch of watermelon and sliced white peaches – but with a fresh and bracing acidity keeping you going back for more.

  • Matthew Jukes, March 2026

The wine that catapulted itself to the top of the pink pile is this week’s headliner, 2025 Roseblood.  Made from 55% Grenache Noir, 25% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, and 5% Rolle and other white grapes, this beautiful wine shows enchanting purity, grace and persistence, coupled with a stunning core of pomegranate, raspberries and cranberries.  All this exuberance is offset by breezy acidity, and with only 12.5% alcohol on board, it is considerably lighter on its toes than many, too.  I cannot recommend it enough... a no-brainer!

Crafted under the expert hand of Marie Delon, the 2024 vintage is a vibrant expression of Provence: bursting with notes of red cherry, wild raspberry, and a whisper of rose water. A notch above the already-excellent core range, Opale offers a beautifully refined texture, crisp acidity, and a clean, dry finish. Silky, refreshing, and effortlessly elegant, it’s the ideal aperitif, and you’ll find having just one bottle to hand isn’t enough.

L’Hetre is lauded Le Pin winemaker Jacques Thienpont's latest vineyard investment. A blend of Merlot (95%) and Cabernet Franc (5%), it is vinified partially in oak, partially in cement. A lovely abundance of sweet, savoury and plum fruit, with a racy Cabernet Franc energy and dynamism. Poised and long.

  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024

Named in honour of Cyril’s great-grandmother, who lost her husband in World War One but still managed to keep the estate intact to pass on to the next generation. The fruit for this cuvée comes from the domaine’s oldest vines in five different locations across the Marsannay commune and as such makes for a fantastic expression of the village style. A forward and charming nose is immediately giving with vivid notes of violet, wild mint, and sun-blushed red cherries. Pure, juicy and bright, with supple, rounded tannins, this is a delightfully easy drinking Pinot. Smiles all round.

  • Burghound, January 2025, Score: 87-90

Fresh, ripe and layered aromas include those of poached plum, earth and a whiff of wood. The succulent, round and delicious middle weight flavors possess good verve that carries over to the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This could use more depth but a few years of cellaring should help.

2023 Roero Arneis Bruno Giacosa - 6x75cl

  • Goedhuis, November 2023

Made from the white grape variety Arneis which means ‘rascal’ in local dialect. Bruno Giacosa, along with Alfredo Currado of Vietti, pioneered the development of Arneis in the 1970s. While a localised hailstorm sadly impacted quantities of the 2023, Bruno is very happy with the quality. Bright and fresh, there is a pure, saline character redolent of crushed oyster shell to the juicy stone fruits. Beautifully complex with its white floral notes and intense minerality. A firm Goedhuis favourite. Drink 2023-2027
