Zuccardi Fósil & Botánico Chardonnay 2024

Zuccardi has been described as “Argentina's best kept secret”, a declaration that can be largely attributed to the exceptional quality of their Malbecs and Chardonnays. We are therefore delighted to offer the newly released 2024 Fósil and Botánico Chardonnays.

Steely, bracing nose of lemon, Granny Smith apples and grapefruit pith. Appetising chalky texture to the wine, providing a lovely balance against the riper white peach, honeysuckle weight on the palate. Great acid drive and backbone, with a touch of exotic ginger and lemongrass providing interest too. Really accomplished in this vintage, and less lean than some previous vintages. Drinking beautifully already, and will age with grace also.

  • James Suckling, June 2026, Score: 96

Steely, showing green apples and a stony austerity that defines the wine’s conservative and transparent aromatics. This offers a vertical, finely constructed palate - delicate with subtle apples and fennel and a vivid, textured, rocky mouthfeel. It’s all about the details. Aged exclusively in concrete. No malolactic fermentation. Raw and authentic. Drink now.

  • Vinous, June 2026, Score: 98

The 2024 Chardonnay Fósil from San Pablo was aged for 10 months in concrete. Lightly golden in hue, it delivers aromas of green apple, chamomile,?huacatay, herbs and a faint pastry nuance. This is lean yet vibrant, with pure white fruit and elevated freshness. The 2024 offers a supple, saline mouthfeel and chalky texture supported by lees contact. Still in its primary phase, this promises further development.

  • Jancis Robinson, June 2026, Score: 17+

For a moment, there is a breath of peach on the nose, and then a cirrus cloud of white apple blossom perfume. The structure of the wine is like liquid glass – transparent, flowing, impenetrable and feeling as if it might shatter into a thousand shards. Lemon in the linear scythe of acidity, chalk and sand in the etch of texture, white peach in the curve of fruit. Commanding but not austere. Drink 2026-2034.

Fascinating to taste next to the Fosil, as you get such a strong sense of each wine’s terroir. Richer and broader than its Fosil counterpart, with a touch more spice and savoury herbaceousness too. Beautiful integration and balance on show here, with ripe juicy pears and apples, crème patissiere and a small touch of dill and tarragon too. All is held brilliantly together with a taught, mineral acidity. Really successful this year, and will provide immediate pleasure straight out of the gate.

  • James Suckling, June 2026, Score: 96

This has a timid nose of grapefruit zest, stony austerity, white pepper and a pleasant herbal note. The palate is tense and austere, with a thin, compact veil of fruit that shows itself toward the finish, with a very tight texture and underlying salinity. This comes from a single parcel with extremely poor soil and high levels of calcium carbonate. Drink now.

  • Vinous, June 2026, Score: 97

The 2024 Chardonnay Botanico from Gualtallary spent 10 months in concrete. More fruit-driven and sun-kissed than the Fósil tasted alongside, it displays baked apple notes and accents of field herbs. Broad and creamy, the 2024 offers tension and chalky undertones with vibrant energy. This is a Chardonnay that combines Gualtallary's exuberance with Zuccardi's precise winemaking style. Drink 2025-2038.

  • Jancis Robinson, June 2026, Score: 17

Lean and intently stony, as if it has been chiselled from cold, white marble in the teeth of a mountain wind. Grapefruit and tarragon and meadow flowers. There is a sense of nervous precision about this wine. But the hint of white peaches on the end makes me think that age will give it confidence. Drink 2026-2032.
