  • Goedhuis, December 2019

Vincent categorises the vines for this fine cuvée into three groups: his younger vines under 30 years which give 30% of the cuvée, the next 30% from 30 year old vines, and the final 40% from aged vines between 40-60 years. A gorgeous combination of exuberance and charm, with clotted cream and hazelnut flavours. Very layered, this wine is full of confidence.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 88

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a fresh minty bouquet that translates more the winemaking rather than the terroir at the moment. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry with moderate acidity, a richer style of Corton-Charlemagne than its peers, but missing some tension on the finish. Drink 2021-2029

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 92

Ripe yet cool and elegant aromas are composed by aromas of white flowers, essence of pear and citrus zest that is trimmed in subtle but not imperceptible wood toast. As one would reasonably expect, there is better volume to the sleekly muscular flavors that exhibit more obvious mineral influence on the powerful and very dry finish that is presently mildly tangy. I suspect that tanginess will gradually dissipate because as examples of Corton-Charlemagne typically go, this is not particularly structured. Drink 2025+

From four plots, including 40% old vines. Vinified in two concrete eggs for 10%, otherwise big wood. There is a little touch of liquorice on top of the white fruit, very fresh and pure with excellent length. Only 30% new wood and in bigger barrels it doesn’t show. Very nicely balanced and will keep well.

Located between Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Pernand Vergelesses vineyard, tucked away in the green surroundings of a quiet valley, begins at the foot of Corton hill. It is the only vineyard to offer the whole range of vintages, in both white and red wines. Ageing of both red and white wines occurs in oak barrels (30% new for white and 20% new for red). All winery processes are undertaken to minimise the handling of the grapes.Read less

Corton Charlemagne

As legend goes, Charlemagne, king of the Franks, ordered Chardonnay planted in the vineyard of Corton during his reign in the 8th century so as he would not stain his light-coloured beard during moments of great thirst. This may be mere romantic fallacy, but what cannot be denied is the exceptional quality of this Grand Cru appellation in Aloxe Corton in the Cote de Beaune.
