The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet les Tremblot Haut Densité Haut Densité had just finished its fermentation in barrel yet still had a very focused, oyster-shell-scented bouquet of subtle yellow flower aromas. The palate is underpinned by a killer line of acidity. Very energetic, with notes of sour lemon and grapefruit toward the finish. This is an uncompromising Puligny-Montrachet. Superb. 2022 - 2040

Here the citrus component is much more restrained though not imperceptible on the nose of acacia blossom and green apple scents. The racy, intense and focused medium-bodied flavors possess a more refined mouthfeel, all wrapped in a clean, dry and even more complex finale. This lovely effort is sufficiently tightly wound to require up to a decade of cellaring to reach its peak, yet it should drink well after 3 to 4 years. Drink 2026+ Outstanding Top value

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 92-95

Clear bright colour, the nose is hyper-concentrated, a wealth of dense white fruit, which doesn’t speak so much of Puligny but this is a great wine. The concentration from the high density planting screams out loud at the back of the palate. Very long, and ultra-fine.

Region

Puligny Montrachet

Puligny Montrachet is known as the most delicate of the white wine appellations south of Beaune. Its wines tend to be linear and mineral offering delicate floral and orchard fruit aromatics. Its village and premier cru vineyard area total slightly over 200 hectares but almost half of them are premier cru making them one of the highest proportions of quality vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Several grand cru vineyards are present, the most notable being Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachetwhich it shares with neighbouring Chassagne, but it does have the extraordinary Chevalier Montrachet and the tiny Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet all to itself. There are a handful of red wines grown, but they tend to be quite light and need to be drunk in their youth.
