  • Goedhuis Waddesdon, May 2026

Sourced primarily from Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, the 2024 is understated and serious on the nose. The palate opens with elegant blackberries, spearmint, dark chocolate, and white pepper. This is a Dow’s of restraint and poise, finishing with firm tannins that will see it through the long haul. All elements mingle harmoniously with each other and everything is perfectly in check. Superb.

  • Wine Advocate, May 2026, Score: 94-97

The 2024 Vintage Port follows the previous declaration of 2017. It was produced with grapes from Quinta do Bomfim in the Cima Corgo and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira in the Douro Superior. The blend is 40% Touriga Franca, 35% Touriga Nacional, 15% field blend (vinhas velhas) and 10% Alicante Bouschet. It fermented in lagar and matured in oak casks. It's linear and structured, with some graphite, lots of resinous rockrose, hints of chocolate (classic Dow's) and is slightly dry and peppery, with a textbook note of violets. Dow's are typically brooding, not up front and quite long. It has a lot of grip. It comes in at 20% alcohol, with a pH of 3.65 and 99 grams of sugar, which makes this one of their driest vintages, with Cockburn's, making it long and vinous. I think this is great wine. 66,420 bottles produced. Drink 2040-2070

With a rich history starting in 1798, Dow's Port revolves around four quintas. Without doubt the kingpin of which is the Quinta do Bomfim (which translates as good end) this being the prime source of fruit for the declared Vintage Port, and in undeclared years the wine here is usually of sufficient quality for it to be bottled as a single quinta Port. 40% of the vineyard is still accounted for by the vines planted by the Symington family in the early years of the 20th century. The varieties planted are led by Touriga Franca (22%), with other significant contributions to the wine from Touriga Naçional (12%), Roriz (12%) and Barroca (11%). Yields are low, and the production of the vineyard amounts to approximately 300 pipes (1 pipe equals 550 litres) of Port. The other three quintas are as follows: Quinta da Senhora de Ribeira, Quinta do Santinho and Quinta do Sol - where the Symington family have their winery.Dow's characteristics are that they are rich, deeply coloured and have appealing fruit brightness.Read less
