  • Neal Martin, January 2022, Score: 94-96

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet, for this writer, demonstrating a little more precision and mineralité compared to the Les Beaumonts. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, more saline than the Les Beaumonts with a very persistent finish. Superb. Drink 2027-2055

A slightly riper nose blends notes of poached plum, anise, sandalwood and exotic jasmine tea. The rich, delicious and velvet-textured medium-bodied flavors possess impressive mid-palate density before terminating in a powerful and mouth coating finish that exhibits just a bit better length on the noticeably more structured finale. We will see in time as the Vosne-Romanée Beaux Monts and Suchots are presently very close. Sweet spot. Outstanding. Drink: 2035+

  • Matthew Jukes, January 2022, Score: 18.5+

This wine is in a different league to Les Murgers, and the wild fruit notes and amazing texture mark it as a stunning success in 2020. The finish is excellent, too, and I have a feeling that it will blossom in around a decade and then hold very well, too.

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 92-95

Black centre with purple rim. A slightly headier, riper style of fruit, a little plumper and a little less fine compared to the Beaumonts, darker fruit, good acidity but the fruit itself is softer. Fine length once again.

The Hudelots are an ancient Burgundian family whose ancestry can be traced back to Chambolle since before the French Revolution. Needless to say, wine has been in their blood for almost as long. Alain Huedlot began his wine career in 1954 working for his father and other local growers. At the ripe young age of 20, he started renting vineyards from his family in Chambolle Musigny until eventually receiving other small parcels from his father. Following a passionate and whirlwind romance with the granddaughter of Charles Noellat, he married despite protests from her family. This controversial union ensured additional vineyards despite a harrying and lengthy legal battle. Today the domaine owns a total of 10 well-situated hectares, which are split over 5 communes. Alain Hudelot’s grandson Charles Van Canneyt is a man on a mission. Having arrived at the domaine from Champagne only six years ago, he is already considered one of the brightest young talents in the region. These wines are wonderful examples of traditionally styled Burgundy - superbly pure and focused with an undeniable sense of terroir.Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
