Tightly coiled and youthful with firm tannins, Le Potazzine’s 2021 Brunello is classically structured. Boasting a deeply intoxicating bouquet of dark cherry, rose petal, sweet red berries and balsamic notes on a silky rich yet elegant and vibrant palate, this is pure class.

  • Wine Advocate, January 2026, Score: 96

The Le Potazzine 2021 Brunello di Montalcino reflects the estate’s loyal following, built on a signature style of freshness and bright, expressive aromatics. This vintage leans toward the more concentrated end of the spectrum, offering blackcurrant and wild plum while maintaining clarity and lift. The tannins are still tight at this youthful stage, though the mouthfeel is already moving toward silkiness and should fully arrive with a bit more time in bottle. This is a hallmark of the cooler, higher-elevation vineyards farmed by Gigliola Giannetti and her daughters. Aged for 40 months in traditional Slavonian oak casks, this wine is released in a production of 16,000 bottles. Drink 2027-2043

  • Vinous, November 2025, Score: 98

Youthfully coiled, the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino requires coaxing to unlock its youthful state, as swirling unleashes nuances of dried roses, black cherries, cedar dust and sage. This is pure seduction on the palate, deeply sensual with dense waves of ripe red berry fruits and a nearly creamy feel, all balanced by vibrant acidity. It leaves the senses stained in primary concentration as an array of sweet tannins frames a slight balsamic tinge that adds a lovely punctuation to the experience. The 2021 is flat-out stunning and geared up for a long evolution. Le Potazzine has secured itself as one of the top Brunello producers vintage after vintage. Drink 2030-2046

  • Kerin O’Keefe, November 2025, Score: 97

Aromas of lavender, eucalyptus, wild berry and dark exotic spice form the lovely nose on the stunning Le Potazzine 2021 Brunello. Loaded with class and a rich finesse, the palate delivers layers of ripe Marasca cherry, black raspberry, licorice and fine tobacco blend. It’s nicely balanced, with taut, well integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Drink 2031-2041. Abv: 15%

Named after the colourful and sprightly great tits which adorn the Tuscan countryside, Le Potazzine is owned by the dynamic all female team of Gigliola Gianetti and daughters Viola and Sofia. Situated southwest of the town of Montalcino, the estate boasts some of the highest vineyards in the region at 507 metres. This high altitude mitigates any heat damage that may affect plantings at lower levels, while airflow from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west allows the vines to benefit from long warm days and cool evenings. In the winery, sole focus is on achieving harmony and finesse and, ever since the first vinification in 1993, Le Potazzine has been producing wines in the most natural way possible. Natural fermentation, a lengthy maceration process, and ageing in Slavonian oak, means that the wines of Le Potazzine are recognisable in their subtlety and matchless character.Read less

Region

Montalcino

Located southwest of Chianti, Montalcino came into its own in the late 1880s when local producer,Biondi-Santi, discovered a Sangiovese clone in his vineyard that was darker in colour than the rest. Its colour, however, was not its only attribute. It produced a wine with notable body, structure and length. He named it ‘brunello' meaning little dark one. This grape's genetic properties along with Montalcino's relatively temperate climate combine to create a wine stylistically different to that of more northerly Chianti. They are usually released approximately 5 years after the vintage following 2 to 4 years ageing in wood. The denomination of Riserva indicates a wine usually produced with more concentrated grapes than the traditional cuvéeand requires a minimum of one additional year of ageing.Today, Montalcino has become one of the most sought after appellations in the Tuscan region.
