  • Robert Parker, June 2015, Score: 92

This 100% Merlot cuvée (which, during this era, came from the choicest parcels of La Croix de Gay) is a rich, concentrated, extracted Pomerol with a dense ruby/purple color, sweet mocha, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, some licorice and truffle. It is medium to full-bodied, still quite young, but very approachable. Drink it over the next 20 years.

  • Robert Parker, April 2008, Score: 93

As one might expect from the Moueix family, this is a classic, traditionally styled Bordeaux exhibiting a deep ruby color, medium body, and a sweet perfume of licorice and kirsch that are reminiscent of a Grenache-based wine from the southern Rhone. However, its elegance, freshness, and high but sweet tannin are unmistakably Bordeaux in style. This 2005 should round into shape in 5-8 years, and keep for a minimum of two decades. Drink: 2013 - 2028.

  • Robert Parker, April 2007, Score: 92-94

This beautiful wine is aptly named. Made in a quintessentially elegant style, with layers of black currant and cherry fruit intermixed with plum, licorice, and vanillin characteristics, medium to full body, sweet tannin, good weight and depth, and no hard edges, this impressive Pomerol should be drinkable in 5-7 years, and keep for 20-25. Drink 2012-2032

  • Robert Parker, April 2006, Score: 92-94

Made in Pomerols quintessentially elegant style, this 2005 reveals pure raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with spice box, cedar, and licorice. With superb purity, medium body, and stunning concentration, 3-4 years of cellaring will be beneficial, and it should last for 15+. Drink: 2009 - 2021.

  • Jancis Robinson, April 06, Score: 18

Mid healthy crimson. Very mineral nose - almost iron filings - though with lots of rich fruit underneath. Very grainy tannins. Extremely embryonic and sinewy. This one is an athlete, probably a marathon runner. Drink 2017-30.

  • Wine Spectator, April 2006, Score: 92-94

Extravagant aromas of crushed fruit and flowers. Almost like a young Port. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and a soft and silky tannin structure. Very fine.

Owned since 1952 by J.P Moueix (who also own Ch.Trotanoy and Ch.Pétrus), this 13.5 hectare estate occupies the eastern part of the Pomerol plateau beween Lafleur and Petrus - hence the name. Completely replanted in 1956 after the devastating frosts with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the wine produced here is lighter than its stablemates, but is highly regarded for its suppleness. The wines are aged for 20 months in one third new oak barrels each vintage. Maturing quite quickly, La-Fleur Petrus can usually be enjoyed after just five or six years. Christian Moueix's drive towards increasing quality is illustrated by his more rigorous selection and by his purchase of old vines from Ch.Le Gay.Read less

Region

Pomerol

The small sub-region of Pomerol is situated north-east of the industrious city of Libourne. Pomerol's soils are predominately iron-rich clay with a smattering of gravel that produce wines with extraordinary power and depth. As a result of this clay-dominance, it has the highest percentage of Merlot planted in all of Bordeaux. Certain châteaux are produced exclusively from this grape, but most incorporate smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as well. Despite its hefty (if not exclusive) proportion of Merlot, many people think of wines from this region as separate entities. As one wine aficionado stated recently, "It's not Merlot. It's Pomerol." Despite the region's small size, Pomerol contains some of the world's most sought after (and expensive) wines including Pétrus, Le Pin, Lafleur, l'Evangile and Vieux Château Certan. Unlike other Bordelais subregions, there is no system of classification. The châteaux are traded on reputation alone.
