Goedhuis, November 2014
Strikingly deep youth dark cassis colour. This is a vibrant and rich wine with lovely textured weight, balancing the ripeness of fruit with a structure of tannins to give an air of masculinity to this excellent property which borders on to St Julien. Composed with a fine cabernet feel and very good length.

Goedhuis, April 2010, Score: 89-91
Very open blackberry fruit aroma with gentle hints of violets. This is a rich and very pleasingly structured Cru Bourgeois, with an appealing density of fruit. A naturally big wine with a lovely sweet finish.

Neal Martin, March 2010, Score: 90-92
The excellent Lanessan 09 sports a tightly-wound nose that is well defined with blackberry, plum and cedar, earthy notes coming through with time. This demonstrated much more sense of terroir than other Medoc 2009s. The palate is full-bodied with good fruit concentration, fine balance with a rounded supple blackberry and cedar finish that retains Medocian typicite. This is a great Lanessan that should drink well over 5-10 years.

Robert Parker, February 2012, Score: 89+
Ripe black currant fruit with some cedar wood, licorice and wood spice are all present in this generously endowed and concentrated. The tannins are silky, and the overall impression is one of elegance, plumpness and beautiful intensity. This is a sleeper of the vintage and one that should only improve over the next several years and merit an outstanding rating. It should keep for up to two decades. Drink: 2012 - 2032

Robert Parker, April 2010, Score: 90-92
Generally a St.-Julien/Pauillac-like offering, the 2009 Lanessan seems more explosive and concentrated than prior vintages. I'm not sure it is the finest I have ever tasted, but it boasts adense purple color as well as copious creme de cassis, cedar wood, underbrush, and spice notes. Beautiful opulence, silky tannins, and a long finish suggest this sleeper of the vintage will drink well for 2-3 decades. (Tasted once.) Drink: 2010 - 2040

Decanter, April 2010, Score: 16+
Good smoky cassis nose and flavours that show its proximity to Saint-Julien, good balance, length and class. Drink 2014-20.

Dark crimson. Toasty and appetising on the nose. Thick and dense and succulent, too. Good balance!
Region
Haut-Médoc
The Haut-Médoc is an appellation within the Médoc that stretches along the left bank of the Gironde from Blanquefort in the south to the north of Bordeaux. The region encompasses the more famous communes of St-Estèphe, Pauillac, St-Julien and Margaux. Following the 1855 classification many of its most famous estates were classified and scored as first, second, third, fourth or fifth growths. This was based on their social and commercial positions at the time. Most of these classed growths use the village appellation name, such as Pauillac. However five of these classed growths fell outside a village appellation so take the name Haut-Médoc. Many of the vineyards which are classified as Haut-Médoc may actually also be referred to as Cru Bourgeois wines. These wines have lower permitted yields and so offer great value for money.
