  • Goedhuis, December 2011

These 65 year old vines have created a Suchots with real backbone. This has great intense direct fruit flavours, a wine full of bright fruit and whilst finishing a little closed, there is huge ageing potential.

  • Burghound, Janaury 2013, Score: 93

(from vines planted in 1950). Here the nose is elegant, pure, fresh and exceptionally spicy with restrained aromas of red and blue pinot fruit, plum and violet. The seductively textured flavors possess excellent detail and fine depth before culminating in a dusty, balanced and long finish that is shaped by remarkably fine tannins. This is altogether harmonious and very Vosne, indeed this is a textbook example. 93/2020+

  • Burghound, January 2012, Score: 90-93

In contrast to the heavy reduction present with some of these 2010s, this is elegant, pure, fresh and exceptionally spicy with a restrained nose of red and blue pinot fruit, plum and violet aromas. The forward and very supple flavors possess excellent detail before culminating in a dusty, balanced and long finish that is shaped by remarkably fine tannins. This is altogether harmonious and very Vosne. Drink: 2018+.Notes: from vines planted in 1950.Comments: outstanding!

Producer

Domaine de l'Arlot

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
