  • Goedhuis, December 2016

A wonderfully opulent grand cru with intoxicating Black Forest gâteau aromas. The delicious palate is generous and lusciously rich, underpinned by a bright freshness giving length and complexity. A great success.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 91-93

The 2015 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a beautiful bouquet with crushed violet aromas infusing the blueberry and black cherry fruit, hints of blood orange emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness on the entry. There is good density and weight here with fresh dark cherries and blackcurrant, though I would like to see more finesse and precision come through on the finish to compete with the exemplars from this vineyard. • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 91-94

Discreet but not invisible wood sets off an attractively layered nose that features notes of plum, anise, violet, earth and a beguiling array of spice elements. There is a caressing mouth feel to the rich, round and delicious middle weight plus flavors that tighten up significantly on the serious and youthfully austere finish that makes clear that this will not be an especially good candidate for early drinking. This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region

Chapelle Chambertin

One of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. Chapelle-Chambertin's vineyards are on gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north. The thin rocky soil forces the vines to work hard. The exceptional wines produced in Chapelle-Chambertin are complex, powerful and incredibly long-lasting.
