Neal Martin, Score: 94
The 2015 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very attractive bouquet of red berry fruit, brown spices, cold stone, and a touch of sous-bois, all well defined and endowed with a surfeit of charm. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, conveying the more masculine nature of this grand cru vineyard, yet with precision and detail flowing through the finish. Excellent, but it needs several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
Region
Latricières Chambertin
Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
