  • Goedhuis, January 2019

After its meagre volume last year Bruno is pleased to have a Bâtard of such quality to show in 2017. This has the inimitable weight and stature of grand cru. Its fine, satin-like layers and rich but poised, deep stone fruit tones give the wine a distinctive power. Its formidable length leaves an impression.

  • Stephen Tanzer, September 2018, Score: 90-92

The ripest nose to this point, showing yellow stone fruits and spices but less citrus character. Quite silky, rich and broad but dry and backward, hinting at crushed rock and flowers. Conveys an impression of delicacy for Chassagne-side Bâtard. Finishes with good mounting length but today the wine doesn't quite come alive.

Producer

Domaine Bruno Colin

Bruno’s estate is spread across an impressive 30+ different parcels in Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet and St Aubin. From 2016 onwards, his portfolio includes Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Desmoiselles and Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru, passed down to him by his father, Michel, who has stepped into retirement (Michel Colin-Deleger’s estate was divided between his two sons, Bruno and Philippe). Bruno’s style blends Burgundy's tell-tale minerality with luxuriant fruit. The wines tend to display generous concentration with vibrant drive. Many have the potential to age beautifully but Bruno’s wines are also notable for their open approachability in youth. His wide range of Chassagne Montrachet premiers crus captures the diverse expression of the appellation.

Region

Bâtard Montrachet

Bâtard-Montrachet is a great white Grand Cru in Burgundy's Côte D'or. Its vineyards are located onthe slope beneath Le Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune. Bâtard-Montrachet's soils are heavier than those surrounding it, made up of brown limestone and gravel, which pave the way for rich, nutty, honeyed and heady wines with good structure. They are not as elegant as those from Chevalier-Montrachet and are broader and weightier than wines from Montrachet.
