  • Burghound, October 2020, Score: 92

A slightly more deeply pitched nose is a bit more perfumed with its layered aromas of both red and dark berries along with similar floral influences. There is better volume and richness to the more powerful and more obviously structured flavors that culminate in a dusty, sappy, serious and youthfully austere finale. This is clearly built to age and a wine that is going to require extended patience. This too is worth checking out provided you have the patience to cellar it for up to another decade. Outstanding. • Wine Advocate, February 2021, Score: 92

Pale ruby-purple, the 2018 Pinot Noir Terraces has a nose of blueberries and earth with touches of dried herbs, pepper and citrus. The palate is medium-bodied and firm but ripe, with pleasantly broody fruits and a flavorful finish. This has the structure and flesh to age well in bottle. 425 cases were made.

  • James Suckling, March 2022, Score: 94

An open and rather soft pinot, offering strawberry and cherry aromas with some stems. Cranberry, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a round, creamy texture and a juicy finish. Sheers off at the finish. Drink or hold.

  • Jeb Dunnuck, January 2021, Score: 90

The 2018 Pinot Noir Terraces offers a Burgundian, medium-bodied style as well as lots of peppery herbs, spice, and cherry and mulberry-like fruits. It's complex and has a bright, juicy spine of acidity as well as a clean finish. It's going to evolve for 5-7 years. Drink 2021 - 2028

Producer

Eden Rift Vineyards

Under vine since 1849, Eden Rift is one of the oldest continually producing estate vineyards in California. A remote, pacific refuge located under the shadow of the Gavilan Mountain Range, the estate rests on the San Andreas Fault. Only 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean, this site benefits from an ideal, temperate maritime climate as well as the coveted calcareous soils requisite in the cultivation of vivid and energetic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Eden Rift's winemaker Cory Waller, spent time in Napa, Oregon and in Martinborough, New Zealand, and neighbouring Calera, before joining the team at Eden Rift. A man of few words, Waller favours the fruit of vines that struggle profoundly to produce small, yet delineated yields. He prefers to allow Mother Nature to do her thing.

Region

California

California is responsible for producing more than 80% of all North American wine. The state extends some 1,100 km north to south and vineyards can be found along most of its length. Pacific ocean breezes and high altitude offer welcome cooling influences to the warm, bright sunshine. This region is rich in old vines, many being planted in the late 19th century and boasts an extraordinary range of soil. It's home to someof thge worl's most prestigious wines and produces a rich and diverse range of wine styles, from stately and expressive Cabernet Sauvignons to juicy and elegant Pinot Noirs. Notable wine regions include Napa Valley and Sonoma County.
