Formerly churning out gallons of bulk wine, Sicily is in the throws of a viticultural revolution and now boasts many excellent wines. Geographically diverse, the island's wine reflect this variety. Planeta got the world's attention with its excellent Chardonnay and Merlot, but increasingly it is a raft of indigenous varieties that are hitting the headlines. Delicious Etna Rosso made from Nerello Mascalese, unctuous Passito di Pantelleria from Moscato and full-bodied reds from Nero d'Avola are all of interest.
