A more restrained nose reflects notes of wild red and dark fruit with plenty of spice and floral elements that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The broader-shouldered and more powerful flavors possess solid if not truly exceptional mid-palate density along with a highly beguiling texture before terminating in a dusty, mouthcoating and impressively persistent finish. As is usually the case this is quite firm and will need all of 15 years, perhaps even more, to realize its full potential. Drink 2033+

Region

Grands Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Much more compact and homogenous than the neighbouring Echezeaux, the Grands Echézeaux vineyards are owned by around twenty producers - very modest in Burgundian terms. The most celebrated producers include Domaines de la Romanee Conti, d'Eugenie and Mongeard-Mugneret. These fine wines are richly complex yet balanced and have enormous ageing potential.
