Goedhuis, December 2021
After many decades of working this fine 1er Cru Monopole, 2020 is sadly Louis Jadot’s last vintage as their long-standing arrangement with the Duc de Magenta has now come to an end. They certainly are going out in style; this is a great cuvée in 2020. Full of fresh almonds, crunchy nuts and Cornish fudge. A bold and broad style, showing off the weighted texture of Chassagne Montrachet, with huge depth and persistence.

Neal Martin, May 2024, Score: 94
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has an effervescent, energetic bouquet with wet limestone, citrus peel and light orange pith scents - all very seductive and well-defined. The palate is nicely balanced with slightly more depth and grip than Simon Colin's Morgeot. The silver thread of acidity lends this energy. It is very poised, but there is a coiled-up sense of animation and life-affirming mineralité on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 91-93
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has a taut, fresh, vibrant bouquet with yellow flowers intermixed with light citrus scents, gravel and jasmine. The palate is smooth and harmonious, tangerine and nectarine on the entry, moderate weight with a slightly pithy finish. I am intrigued to see how this will develop. Closure: Diam. Drink 2025 - 2042

Chassagne Montrachet
The white wines of Chassagne Montrachet can be difficult to distinguish from Puligny. At their most typical they are slightly fleshier and more hedonistic, but are often just as mineral and refined making the two almost inseparable. When distinguishable, they offer notes of honeysuckle, lime blossom and honey. Many have become quite approachable when young. It is larger than Puligny with vineyards totalling over 330 hectares. Though it shares both the grand cru vineyards of Le Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachet, it has sole ownership of the miniscule Criots Bâtard Montrachet. Similar to Puligny, Chassagne also grows Pinot Noir, which can be austere when young. A small amount of red Chassagne is also made.
