Goedhuis Waddesdon, February 2025
Purity, definition and varietal expression sits at the heart of Chan de Rosas’ stylistic approach. The Cuveé Especial incorporates hand-harvest Albarino from Do Galpon Alto Pazo. A small proportion of the wine (15%) is gentled rest in French oak barrels to aid texture, weight and complexity. This judicious approach to oak influence aims to support the natural expression of the grape and allow its personality to shine. The nose brings together citrus peel, green apple, white peach and subtle vanilla notes. These notes follow on to the palate with a creamy texture and wonderful honeysuckle note on the finish. A great example of this characterful grape variety.
Region
Rías Baixas
Rías Baixas is the most important wine region in Galicia, north-west Spain, producing some of Spain's most sought-after dry white wines. There are 5 subzones, which all share the samegranite-based subsoils and relatively cool, damp, maritime climate. The albariño grape rules here and produces a fragrant, intensely fruity, dry white wine with a natural minimum alcohol often above 12 per cent. This can often be blended with caiño blanco, as well as treixadura, and loureira. The purest albariño wines come from Val do Salnés zone. Red wine can also be made from mencía, espadeiro, and caiño tinto but these are relatively unimportant.
