Ch Beaumont Haut Medoc 2005

Archive

It’s not always about DRC, Petrus and Lafite in HK. I have written about the enjoyment of wine from other regions in Hong Kong many times. Neverthless Bordeaux does do quality without a huge price tag as well as any wine growing region on the planet.

Wine merchants (me) bang on and on about “buying through the gears” in great vintages. This means buying some of the lesser wines in top years and not just focusing the Lafite, Mouton, Margaux, Latour, Haut Brion, Le Pin etc. We try to explain (sounding patronising already I know) that some of the less expensive wines are the things to stock up on in great years, and which when ready to go are invariabably out of stock.

Every now and then we pick a beauty. I just cracked abottle of 2005 Ch Beaumont, Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois, (SOLD OUT). This is a wine that we sold over 1000cs en primeur (in 2006) at GBP 75/case (IN BOND UK). Bags of sweet fruit, lots of coffee/chocolate notes and a lovely long finish. Bravo! This is a real crowd pleaser. Happy days. This is a great success for the vintage. Sadly that’s my last bottle. Any sellers out there?

We still have some 2009….
