The 2024 Saint-Véran is the main cuvée of the domaine and comes from various parcels, the fruit aged in stainless steel for nine months. This has a flattering bouquet with yellow plum mixed with light resinous notes, becoming more floral with time. The palate is well balanced with fine weight and is quite caressing in texture, with a dash of white pepper towards the leesy finish. Enjoy this over the next three to five years. Drink 2026-2033

Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
With over 6 hectares of village Chablis adjoining both Premiers and Grands Crus sites, Olivier has all the ammunition to make a benchmark Chablis. Notes of golden apple and toasted brioche can be found on the nose, while the palate displays generous fruit and a delicate citrus pith finish. Though no oak is used during élevage, the steady maturation on the lees creates a style with great depth and purity.

Bailly noted that this had been bottled 3 days before I tasted it and not surprisingly, there was a background hint of sulfur on the more obviously Chablis-like nose of Granny Smith apples, lemon rind and tidal pool nuances. There is also better volume and mid-palate concentration to the more attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess an enveloping mouthfeel, all wrapped in a nicely long if not especially dry finale. This was a bit awkward but in fairness, it had just been bottled so my rating offers the benefit of the doubt.

Wine Advocate, March 2025, Score: 89
Samuel Billaud’s 2023 Chablis Village is sourced from three plots, two on the left bank and one on the right bank. Opening in the glass with notes of tangerine zest, bread and beeswax, this wine is medium to full-bodied, rather tightly wound and laden with tangy acidity and concludes with a long, saline finish. It is vinified entirely in steel.

Jasper Morris MW, July 2024, Score: 89
Just bottled. The grapes are a mix of domaine fruit from both banks and some purchases. Fresh pale lemon, a little more restrained than the Petit Chablis, but with slightly more elegance. A graceful rendition of Chablis with the additional bonus of some more forceful iodine character which appears at the back. Persistent, not over ripe. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Jul 2024.

Of Javillier’s two Bourgogne Blancs, this is undoubtedly the most Meursault in style; the vineyards’ clay-rich soils impart an opulence and roundness to the palate. Due to the cooler conditions, the 2024 is a little less flamboyant than in some vintages, but still maintains its vibrant approachability, with flavours of spice, fresh croissant and a finish of zesty tangerine. A very lovely style.

Burghound, April 2026, Score: 87
Cool, airy and layered aromas include those of pear, apple, petrol and lemon zest. There is excellent volume in the context of the appellation to the delicious middle weight flavors that deliver unusually good power on the sappy, long and balanced finale. This is very good for its level and well-worth considering. Outstanding Top value. Drink 2028+

Goedhuis Waddesdon, July 2025
The 2022 vintage from this small 7-hectare estate is a beautifully crafted blend of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Petit Verdot. A beautful deep bouquet of dark berries and plums, complemented by subtle notes of liquorice and spice. Generous and fleshy on the palate with a gentle but quite serious tannic structure, held together by a vibrant acidity giving it a great classic Claret 'cut'. An expressive and harmonious wine with great appeal.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Beaumont leaps from the glass with vibrant black and red cherries and warm cassis notes plus an undercurrent of bay leaves, lavender and pencil shavings. Full-bodied, firm and grainy, the mid-palate is taut and muscular with plenty of energy and an herbal lift on the finish.

Decanter, April 2019, Score: 91
Firm, deep and well extracted, this is a rich purple colour with sweet blackberry fruits on the nose along with some gentle spicing. It's an elegant and extremely classic Médoc wine. The tannins are already smooth and starting to integrate with the fruits. The quality bodes well for the medium-priced wines in this vintage. One of the value picks of the Médoc. A nice Beaumont with generous fruit, which is a shade or two darker than in most vintages, and also some fit tannins and a long finish. This will be a notable effort for this estate and it will be sure to impress fans, too.

Julia Harding, April 2019, Score: 16
Inky dark with purple rim. There's a pretty fruit sweetness on the nose and a touch of vanilla, much less severe than the Moulis and Listrac wines just tasted. Well balanced on the palate too, for a tannic wine, and more refined texture on the finish. Dry but not drying. Drink 2022-2028

The riverside road on the east of St Estèphe is a wonderful route to see the unique terroir and great classified growth vineyards of this fine appellation. Pass the grandeur of Ch Montrose and immediately next door is the charmingly humble property of Ch Meyney – you will be instantly struck by how special its terroir must also be. One of our “value buys” of the vintage. Shining purple colour, with open aromas of dark hedgerow fruits, this is plush, polished and luscious. The tannins are very ripe and rounded, and it has a lovely warming sensation on the finish.

The 2018 Meyney is very closed and backward on the nose, possibly due to the oak becoming more prominent at this stage during its élevage. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, fresh in the mouth with a linear, tobacco and graphite tinged finish. All the component parts are here, but its very tight and I am sure it will need several years in bottle. Could this be the best value in the appellation this year? I'll leave it to tussle out with Lafon-Rochet.

Antonio Galloni, April 2019, Score: 91-94
The 2018 Meyney is powerful, dense and super-expressive. Gravel, game, scorched earth, smoke, licorice, incense and spice infuse this potent, virile Saint-Estèphe. The fruit profile and oak integration point to a transition towards a less extracted style. Even so, there is plenty of the richness readers have come to expect from Meyney. Tasted two times.

Wine Advocate, April 2019, Score: 89-91
The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Meyney gives up blackcurrants, black berries and plums on the nose with earth and spices plus fried herbs and lots of oak. The big, full-bodied palate has some promising fruit but is a bit hard and oaky.

Decanter, April 2019, Score: 94
It's clear that this is hugely concentrated, as is the Montrose right next door, but there's also beautiful juice and freshness underneath the black fruits and the powerful grip. Tannins, acidity and fruit: it's all there. This is great quality and should be long-lived, with a rich palate, evenly balanced and austere in all the right places. Another good vintage at this increasingly impressive property. Drinking Window 2024 - 2040

Julia Harding, April 2019, Score: 16
Black core with deep purple rim. Very oaky on the nose, sweetly toasty as a counterpoint to stony, dark fruit. The oak really dominates the palate, the tannins thereby thickened, like thick chocolate. Chewy finish but it does have enough freshness. Drink 2025-2035
