Last year I came across a new Crozes Hermitage producer for Goedhuis & Co. called Robert Rousset. They are a wonderfully friendly family who have one of the best parcels in Crozes called Les Picaudières. After tasting some pretty and silky wines, I moved onto Jaboulet and visited their cellars which are housed in an ancient Roman quarry. I felt like I was on the set of an Indiana Jones movie far off in Egypt or Jordan. They are truly extraordinary.
This was followed by a visit to our new Cornas producer, Alain Voge. His wines are velvety and smooth yet never lose touch of Cornas’ power and personality. Albéric Mazoyer, hobbled over to meet me with a broken ankle and crutches and we tasted through several vintages of his various wines, all delicious. In this year’s offer we will be including a more expensive cuvée which Parker gave the highest Cornas rating to in 2005. We couldn’t be more delighted to work with them.
