Last weekend I discovered a fantastic restaurant right in the heart of Marylebone called Le Relais de Venise. Having never been before I was not entirely prepared for the hour-long queue that had formed.
Going to a restaurant that does not take bookings at 8pm on a Saturday night was not the best decision I have ever made but the friendly atmosphere and the prospect of a delicious plate of steak-frites kept us going.
As soon as you sit down all memories of waiting dissipate. The distinctly French décor with its tightly packed tables and mirrored walls set the scene for a truly Gallic meal.
There is no menu handed to you at Le Relais de Venise. For starters we had a delicious walnut and apple salad with a hunk of warm baguette. Next their famous steak-frites with “˜special sauce’, which was worth the wait. The bonus here is that you get a double helping of both steak and frites – the boys were especially happy.
We borrowed this picture from their website, as a compelling argument to go as quickly as possible. We will see you in the queue. But perhaps not one for the vegetarians out there….
