I had the pleasure last Thursday to attend the Suffolk Tasting at Ravenwood Hall. The wine was flowing and showing beautifully and the weather was not bad either. It really felt like a summer garden party come early.
To my relief, I was assigned the rosés for the evening and so enjoyed a refreshing 3 hours of the 2011 Ch St Baillon and Whispering Angel. There was a clear gender divide over the two, with the fairer sex opting for the more lacy and ethereal Esclans version and those looking for an easy-drinking more ‘masculine’ rosé choosing the former. Both in my opinion are excellent and I’m looking forward to enjoying plenty of either over the Jubilee.
A few barrel samples kindly sent over were enjoyed by all:
And our new house Champagne, Janisson & Fils tasted lovely and fresh
And finally, a day in the life of…a Suffolk Wine merchant. The idyllic Tostock office. From my window I could watch a horse grazing and across my desk I could see Caroline smiling- what better setting to work in.
