White Burgundies | 2021 in the spotlight
The 2021 White Burgundies come from a year of very small yields, with volumes down by as much as 60% compared to an average harvest. A long, cool growing season marked a welcome shift away from the warmer, richer styles of 2019 and 2020. With fruit able to hang on the vine into late September, the wines developed slowly and evenly, resulting in lower alcohol levels and a fabulous reflection of each vineyard’s identity.
Stylistically, the 2021s are bright, fresh, and finely structured. In many ways, they sit firmly within the classical poise of vintages such as 2014 and 2017, favouring finesse and purity over richness. Now, five years on, these wines are entering a particularly appealing drinking window. With cases available from £200 upwards, there really is something here for all occasions.
