Region

Côte de Beaune

The Côte de Beaune begins north of the town of Beaune with the villages of Pernand Vergelesses,Ladoix Serrigny and Aloxe-Corton. There are far more village appellations that make up this subregion, a total of 18 compared to 8 in the Côte de Nuits. Its red styles range from the most plump and fruit forward such as those from Beaune, Chorey or Savigny to the delicate and linear wines of Volnay to the textured and structured creations of Pommard. Though its reds can be noteworthy, its whites are the bigger draw. The limestone-rich soils of the villages of Corton, Meursault, Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet are treasure troves of some of the most exceptional white wines produced. Each sings with its own voice yet with a chorus that is undeniably Chardonnay.
